CORONAVIRUS Fuels Pool Table Sales
Staying in is the new going out!
Australians are redirecting travel budgets to home improvement and, more specifically, home entertainment as a consequence of restrictions on travel and social distancing requirements.
Home has become more of an escape from the outside world as a result of The Virus and people are relying more on home entertainment. One of the popular ways to enjoy time at home is by playing a wide variety of board and table games, including pool. Players of all skill levels try their luck as they take shots and strive to pocket the balls.
Pool tables, new and second hand, have certainly been in demand because of the pandemic.
And numbers do not lie, as they say. Sales of pool tables have spiked since late 2019 when the coronavirus hit the world. It is not just in Australia but in many places across the globe where board games and pool or billiards have become people’s favourite pastimes.
Here are some interesting stats:
- Monopoly and other classic board games soared in sales as families search for indoor entertainment options. In the UK, puzzles and board games saw a 240% increase in sales since the first of the coronavirus lockdown.
- The Game of Life, Battleship, and other Hasbro board games increased 20% in sales. However, the overall revenue of the company decreased by four per cent following the production delays.
- Hey Buddy Hey Pal Investments LLC sells EggMazing, which is a toy that allows kids (and adults) to decorate eggs. According to the owners, the products typically depend on the Easter celebration for a revenue increase. However, due to the pandemic, the sales went up 4,000% on Amazon and 100% at Walmart stores in the US.
- Table tennis tables are also enjoying attention while people try to stay indoors. A games supplier based outside Bristol, UK, mentioned that he already sold 124 tables. During the same period before the pandemic, he only managed to sell 15. The same person also owns a pool table business, and he claimed that his pool tables stock quickly went from 500 to 250.
The rise of contactless pool gaming has also caused an increase in pool table sales where commercial businesses, including pubs, will soon implement this innovative system.
Consequentially, the last half of 2020 has been a particularly busy time for Quedos Billiard Tables with unprecedented orders -particularly from the eastern states of Australia.
The following is a sample of the wide range of pool tables delivered by Quedos Billiard Tables to all parts of Australia during the past eight months in this COVID 19 environment:
From The Designer Collection
The Aurora certainly proved very popular. The following three models highlight the diverse range of finishes available when selecting this award-winning pool table.
This Aurora, crafted entirely from Western Australian Jarrah, was delivered to a customer in Karrinyup, a northern Perth suburb. The black cloth brings out the features of this magnificent timber.
This beautiful Aurora, also made from Jarrah, was stained black to suit the décor of this very modern home in Dalkeith WA.
Distinctive Western Australian Marri was the timber chosen by a family for their Aurora. Very appropriately, they reside in the Perth suburb of Treeby.
This amazing Advocate crafted entirely from Blackbutt with Ancient Red Gum inlays was delivered to a family in Skennars Heads NSW just before Christmas.
This Fusion, crafted from WA Jarrah, was delivered to a home in Bridgeman Downs, Qld.
This 8ft. Insperante, crafted from American Black Walnut, became the showpiece in a beautiful home in Curl Curl NSW.
In complete contrast to the very modern tables produced by Quedos, this very rustic, “Rustic”, made from recycled Jarrah, found a very lovely home in Canningvale WA.
This Nova, crafted from Western Australian Marri, was delivered to a customer in Kallaroo WA just in time for Christmas ensuring that there was no shortage of family activities during the COVID lockdowns.
The Entertainer and The Visionary
Two Entertainers and a Visionary crafted from the same timber and with the same painted finish were also delivered during the pandemic.
The innovative Entertainer, featured in the Quedos Designer Collection, has proved to be a very popular pool table. This model quickly and effortlessly converts to the height of a dining table by remote control in approximately 10 seconds. So, in just a few minutes, The Entertainer transforms from a minimalistic, sleek dining table to a modern, professional pool table. The dining top has 4 sections that can be conveniently and compactly stored underneath the table for fast and easy assembly.
The Entertainer can be crafted from any number of timbers and numerous painted finishes. However, two customers recently selected Marri timber for the dining top and cushions (rails) of their tables with the frame and legs made from aluminium and painted black.
But there was one very striking difference between the two Entertainers – one delivered to Adelaide and the other to Sydney.
A prominent IT company selected black cloth for the 7ft. Entertainer installed in its Adelaide Offices. The black cloth added a touch of class to an already classy pool cum dining table as can be seen from the following photos of the table taken in our Perth showroom just before it was picked up for its journey to South Australia.
Not only will their Quedos table make for happy employees, but the company will also be able to claim a 100% tax deduction in the current year for the cost of the table under the Instant Tax Write-Off provisions of the Income Tax Act.
The other Entertainer, with the same timber and painted finish, was delivered to a home in Queenscliff NSW. But the proud owners selected orange cloth to make a statement and with a great result. It shows you how much the selection of cloth colour can make to the appearance of your pool table.
The Visionary is the same design as The Entertainer but without the mechanism to adjust the height of the table and the storage facility for the dining top.
A Perth family also selected Marri timber and black frame for their Visionary installed by Quedos in a beautiful tropical setting in their Palmyra residence.

The Legacy and The Contemporary Ball Return Models
The Legacy is one of the most popular pool tables made by Quedos.
Generally, this ball return model features solid Jarrah cushions or rails. Jarrah is an extremely hard timber to best withstand abuse from balls, belt buckles, cues, exuberant players, and the like.
However, one customer from the riverside suburb of Bicton WA selected a Legacy crafted from Pine, stained to an American Oak finish, to suit the décor of their Games Room.
The Contemporary Ball Return is a more modern version of The Legacy. It features more stainless steel and can be finished in a virtually unlimited range of paints. Metallic enamels are particularly popular.
This Contemporary Ball Return with Marri cushions and a “midnight” metallic enamel base and legs was selected by a customer for their family getaway on a fairly secluded island situated in Western Australia’s beautiful southwest.
The Acclaim is the “less refined” version of The Visionary from The Quedos Designer Collection and is suited for those on a limited budget. Its minimalistic design makes it ideal for use as a dining table to become a striking piece of furniture.
A family from Meadow Springs WA selected American Black Walnut cushions with a stainless steel frame and legs for their Acclaim. A matching four-piece dining top enabled their pool table to be converted to a dining table when the occasion arises.
The Navigator was chosen by clients in Wannanup WA to make a statement in their home.
And what a statement! The white gloss surface provided a total contrast to the vibrant red cloth.
The MKII Jarrah
“Traditional style” pool tables are always in demand.
It was not that long ago that all pool tables were made from timber with turned legs and exposed cotton or nylon pockets. This 9ft. MKII Jarrah was made for a “traditionalist” in the seaside suburb of Port Kennedy in Western Australia.
It is no wonder that The Precision is the most popular pool table manufactured by Quedos Billiard Tables. It is a very modern, very minimalistic model, represents excellent value and can be supplied in an unlimited number of timbers or paints- including a wide selection of metallic enamels.
Tables in “Midnight” Metallic Enamel proved popular with these models delivered just before Christmas:
The Precision can be made with solid timber cushions (rails) with the base and legs painted to your specifications. The following are two of the tables featuring the timber –paint combination delivered by Quedos under safe Coronavirus conditions.
